Springfield MO Dentist Warns of Dangers in Delaying Dental Visits

Springfield MO – “With the economy still uncertain, many people are cutting back on expenses,” observes Springfield MO cosmetic dentist Dr. Kelly Barnett. “But dental appointments aren’t one of the things you should cut back on. It’s easy to find excuses not to spend the time and money on a visit to the dentist. But that’s short-term thinking. If the dentist or dental hygienist can detect a problem in the earliest stages, it is easier and much less expensive to treat.” Prevention is certainly the “key” to long term dental health.

“Many serious dental issues can be prevented or successfully treated if they are detected early,” notes Springfield MO implant dentist, Dr. Tracy Davis. “Oral cancer, decay, abscesses, gum infections, tooth wear, and enamel erosion are all more easily and successfully treated in the earlier stages.” Dental problems can become more serious, and more costly to correct, if left untreated. For instance, a small cavity that is not restored can grow and silently spread to the nerve, which would cause an infection or abscess. Only then does the tooth starts hurting or become symptomatic. Springfield MO Dentists Caution Patients to Cut back on Sodas Barnett-Davis Dental

Springfield MO – “People in the U.S. drink enormous quantities of sodas annually,” warns Springfield MO dentist Dr. Tracy Davis. “If you fill up ten teaspoons with sugar, you’ll get an idea of how much sugar you’ll find in a 12-ounce soft drink can. Then measure out 17 teaspoons and you’ll see how much a 20-ounce bottle contains.”

Although soda drinkers commonly only worry about sugar causing weight gain, the carbonation can also damage teeth. Repeated exposure to soft drinks causes significant loss of tooth enamel. A recent report by the Academy of General Dentistry warns that soft drinks are ten times more likely to harm tooth enamel than fruit juices. The problem with soda is the citric and phosphoric acids from the carbonation.

“Patients don’t know about the concealed dangers in sodas,” says Dr. Kelly Barnett, a Springfield MO tooth whitening services provider. “You can drink diet soft drinks, but the acid will still hurt your teeth.” (more…)

Nixa Dentist Compares New Whitening Treatment to other Methods

NIXA, MO — Everybody wants a whiter, brighter smile. But, be it cigarettes, tobacco, soda pop, wine, tetracycline staining, or simply aging, people wind up with lackluster smiles. That’s why so many people turn to at-home whitening systems or professional whitening from their hygienist or dentist.

Teeth whitening and bleaching systems have gone through many changes through the ages. According to TheHistoryOf.net, the Egyptians used toothpaste consisting of powdered pumice stone and wine vinegar to remove stains. The Romans even used acidic urine to keep their teeth white. Thankfully, in more modern times, there are much more effective and palatable remedies to obtain whiter smiles.

Though many people have been unsuccessful in their attempts to whiten their teeth with over-the-counter, “beauty salon type” bleaching systems, or even whitening in a dentist office, Barnett-Davis Dental Group, a Nixa dentistry center, has recently incorporated a new patented, professional tooth whitening system that not only removes the most severe of stains, it is virtually pain free. Also, if patients have had severe gum or tooth sensitivity with other bleach systems, the KoR Evolve Bleaching System is the solution.

“When I ask patients about their experiences with teeth whiteners and bleaches, I typically hear two complaints,” says Nixa dentist, Dr. Tracy Davis. “Either the teeth were not whitened from a poor whitening system or the patient experienced high sensitivity from the bleaching agents, which makes it very painful for bleaching treatment to continue in most cases.” (more…)
